R&I's Integrated Research Management System update

posted 20 February 2017 | Staff Announcement (staff)

Periodic update on R&I's Integrated Research Management System (IRMA) project. Key areas are Higher Degree by Research for the Graduate Research Office, BioSafety for SRT, Scopus Automated Data Harvesting and Citations along with ORCID Unique Identifiers for Researchers.

To support Murdoch University’s core priority of providing ‘leading edge, blue sky and translational research’, Research and Integrity (R&I) have progressed improvement works on specific research related IT applications and services.  Updates on three of these change initiatives are as follows:

  1. The IRMA has seen a number of improvements to various modules over the past 12 months with the implementation of the Animal Ethics module and its use with the annual reporting cycle underway in IRMA.

R&I are looking forward to welcoming Human Ethics later in 2017 into the same process, so both human and animal ethics along with BioSafety integrity module application processes are all consistent.

Following the successful adoption of Animal Ethics, R&I have begun work on enabling the Higher Degree by Research (HDR) and BioSafety modules in IRMA.

HDR will benefit from the:

  • removal of reliance on paper based forms in the candidature and variation management processes
  • online approvals, which will increase progress visibility
  • the introduction of a comprehensive suite of reports

Biosafety will benefit from the:

  • introduction of a new end to end lifecycle integrity management process for applications, variations, reporting and closures
  • introduction of a new management system for the control of PC2/3 and Approved Arrangements infrastructure and annual inspections in IRMA

  1. Our SCOPUS system provides access to research publications affiliated and published with a Murdoch by-line. These publications are ‘harvested’ and a copy saved to the Library’s Repository System.

To increase the benefits of this service we will be introducing ‘automated data harvesting’ and citations tracking. These enhancements will automate the collection of publications types from Scopus and display citation counts in the IRMA Researcher Profile.

  1. ORCID is a worldwide initiative to have a unique identifier for Research outputs. This functionality will be available soon from the Researcher Profile in IRMA and will enable a quick and easy way to create, update and link your ORCID identifier to research articles and publications, leading to improved visibility of the published body of works for Murdoch University.

Further details on each of these changes including how to get involved, training or awareness sessions and go live dates will be communicated to the Research Community over the coming months.
