Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Awareness
posted 03 April 2017 | Staff Announcement (staff)
Murdoch has recently developed ESOS Awareness audit and compliance module accessible through Murdoch's e-Learning System
Murdoch University and its staffs have a legal responsibility to comply with the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act, which establishes legislative requirements and standards for the quality assurance of education and training institutions offering courses to international students who are in Australia on a student visa.
This ESOS Awareness module has been developed in support of this compliance requirement, to highlight these responsibilities and aid in staff understanding our obligations to the ESOS Act.
Although some of you may not deal directly with international students, all staff should be aware of the University’s responsibilities and obligations.
You can access the ESOS Awareness e-Learning module via:

Additional information is below for your convenience.
Why do staff members need to complete this training?
As a registered provider of education to international students, Murdoch University has a responsibility to ensure compliance with the ESOS Act obligations.
In order to comply with Standard 6.7 of the National Code of Practice, all Murdoch University staff must be aware of the University’s obligations under the ESOS legislative framework and the potential implications for students arising from the exercise of these obligations.
Who needs to complete ESOS Legislative Framework Awareness training?
Any Murdoch University staff member that interacts directly with international students must complete this training module regularly and maintain a currency of knowledge and understanding of the ESOS legislative framework.
Following the initial launch of the online training - at which time all staff must complete the module - all newly commencing staff must complete the initial training during their staff induction/orientation process. All staff must then complete the online training once every 24 months, and will receive an automated email prompt to remind them when they are next due to complete the module.
You are also encouraged to revisit this online training module periodically to refresh your knowledge, and to use the program as a resource when necessary.
Kind regards,
Professor Lyn Karstadt
Deputy Vice Chancellor - International
