Handling Aggression Course for Murdoch staff
posted 09 May 2017 | Staff Announcement (staff)
The University is now offering a blended course to provide staff with knowledge and skills in avoiding, and responding to if necessary, aggressive behaviour.
Content includes:
- Understanding aggression;
- Knowing the rights and responsibilities of individuals, Campus Security Services and Western Australian Police in relation to aggression management;
- How to avoid aggression;
- Assessing aggression risk;
- De-escalating aggressive situations; and
- Post-incident support and self-care.
The first part of the course is an ELMO Module titled ‘Handling Aggression’. This must be completed prior to attending the second part, or it can be completed on its own.
The second part is a 3.5 hour practical in-person session called ‘Practising Aggression Handling’, for enrolment via TCMS. It will revise the ELMO course module in a practical context, and also introduce further skills to enable someone to breakaway from aggression. This session will be run for the first time on Thursday, 8 June from 9am - 12:30pm at the Perth Campus.
