Brexit: what it means for you and your future
posted 04 September 2017 | Staff Announcement (staff)
Join Professor Toby Miller, a Sir Walter Murdoch Professor of Cultural Policy Studies on Monday 11 September to find out more about the wider implications of Brexit and how it may impact you. This free public lecture is part of the Future Earth film and lecture series at Murdoch University.
The lecture will be held in the KBLT from 6-7pm.
The referendum in 2016 to leave the European Union has cast Britain into crisis. We have seen a Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Exchequer resign in 2016; the government lose its majority in 2017, despite a campaign in its favor by virtually all the mainstream media; a sense that the state cannot give its citizens basic protection (terrorist attacks and an apartment-block fire); and widespread confusion over what Brexit will and should involve.
How did we arrive at this state of affairs? Who voted for Brexit--and why? What does it mean for Britons living abroad and visitors living in the UK? What does it imply for the security of citizens?
