Showcasing Modern Indonesian Literature with author Ms Leila Chudori

Date: 17th July 2013
Time: 17:30 PM - 19:00 PM

Location: South Street Campus

Murdoch University is hosting a visit to Perth by one of Indonesia’s most accomplished authors, Ms Leila Chudori, and by the co-founder of the Lontar Foundation, Indonesia’s largest publisher of Indonesian literature in translation, Mr John McGlynn.

The visit will coincide with the Perth launch by Lontar of a Modern Library of Indonesian Literature, which is creating translations of Indonesia’s literary canon in English. Mr McGlynn will launch the Library here at Murdoch University. In addition, Ms Chudori will read from English translations of her works and discuss the creative process. Ms Chudori’s latest novel Pulang (Coming Home), published last December, has already gained wide critical acclaim. It is a powerful account of the fate of a community of Indonesian political exiles adrift in Paris after 1965, as they re-connect vicariously with the emerging democratic movement in Jakarta in 1998.
