Participants wanted for lower back pain & chiropractic treatment research
posted 24 October 2017 | Staff Announcement (staff)
We’re looking for people aged 18-60 who have had lower back pain in the last 12 months. Research investigating chiropractic treatments and pain sensitivity is being conducted at Murdoch University, as part of a PhD project in the School of Health Professions.
Chiropractic treatment is a commonly used and safe option for lower back pain, which many people find helpful for their symptoms.
Participation involves 4 sessions with a mixture of chiropractic treatments to your lower back. Your sensitivity to pressure and pinprick will be tested multiple times during the first session, and once at each of the 3 follow-up sessions.
The first session will take 2 hours, and each of the 3 follow-up sessions will take 30 minutes. All sessions are done at the Murdoch University South St Campus. We’ll make sure it’s as safe as possible for you to participate with a medical history and physical examination.
We’re also looking for people who HAVEN’T had any significant lower back pain in the last 12 months.
If that sounds like you or someone you know, please get in touch. We want to compare people who do and don’t get lower back pain to help us understand the differences. We need people without lower back pain for the first part of the study only (about 30 minutes), which involves filling out some questionnaires and pain sensitivity testing (pressure and pinprick). There will be no treatment and only a single visit.
You’ll receive a $25 JB Hifi voucher or similar in exchange for your time.
