Public Interest Disclosure Policy

posted 21 November 2017 | Staff Announcement (staff)

The Public Interest Disclosure Act 2003 (PID Act) facilitates the disclosure of public interest information, and provides protection for those making disclosures and those who are the subject of disclosures. The PID Act provides a system for the matters disclosed to be investigated and for appropriate action to be taken.

Murdoch’s Public Interest Disclosure Policy (also known as "whistle-blowing" policy) ensures that the University meets its commitments under the PID Act and provides a framework for making disclosures under the Act, ensuring the investigation of such disclosures, and providing protection for persons making disclosures from reprisals.

Disclosures under the PID policy can be made to a Public Interest Disclosure Officer (PID Officer) of the University, or other proper authorities as detailed in the policy. The University’s PID Officers are as follows:

  • Ms Michelle Narustrang, Director People and Culture
  • Ms Trudi McGlade, University Secretary
  • Mr Sarav Rajagopalan, Director Audit and Risk Management

For guidance on making a public interest disclosure, please refer to "Speaking Out: A guide to making a Public Interest Disclosure".

If you need further information on the PID policy, please contact Sarav Rajagopalan, the Director Audit and Risk Management at S.Rajagopalan@murdoch.edu.au or 08 9360 6167.
