Treatment of keloid scars with prazosin cream
posted 10 January 2018 | Staff Announcement (staff)
Volunteers with sensitive keloid scars are wanted for a new treatment study at Murdoch University.
We are seeking volunteers to participate in a trial to investigate whether a new pain relieving cream influences sensitivity of keloid scars. The active ingredient in the cream (prazosin) inhibits skin sensitivity in people with chronic pain after nerve and tissue injury, but has not previously been investigated in people with sensitive keloid scars.
Participating will involve attending Murdoch University to assess sensitivity of your keloid scar to heat, cold, pressure and sharpness before and one day after the pain relieving cream or an inactive cream has been applied to your scar. On one occasion the pain relieving cream will be applied, and on another occasion the inactive cream will be applied, so that we can assess how effective the cream is. Each session lasts approximately one hour.
