Time: 12:30 PM - 14:00 PM

Location: South Street Campus

John H. McGlynn of the Lontar Foundation, Jakarta will be presenting The Asia Research Centre’s next public lecture, “Why Translation Matters: Lessons from the Modern Library of Indonesian Literature” in the Murdoch University Senate Conference Room from 12:30pm to 2.00pm on Wednesday 17th July 2013.

John H. McGlynn is a long-term resident of Indonesia, having lived in Jakarta almost continually since 1976. He is the translator of several dozen publications under his own name, and through the Lontar Foundation, which he established with four Indonesian authors in 1987, has brought into print more than one hundred books on Indonesian literature and culture.

Lontar is in the process of translating all the major works of Indonesian modern literature into English. This visit will be the public launch of this Library of Modern Indonesian literature.

This is a free public lecture and all are welcome to attend.
