Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research (the 2018 Code)

The NHMRC, ARC and Universities Australia have released the 2018 Code following extensive review and consultation.

The 2018 Code has been streamlined into a principles-based document which presents eight clear principles of responsible research and 29 key responsibilities for researchers and institutions.

The 2018 Code is a crucial part of the framework for the responsible conduct of research in Australia and aims to promote greater consistency across the research sector, support confidence in publicly-funded research, and strengthen Australian research internationally.

The 2018 Code is supported by supplementary guides. The first of which, Guide to managing and investigating potential breaches of the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research 2018, has been released.

The 2018 Code will be complemented by revisions to NHMRC’s and ARC’s research integrity and misconduct policies, funding agreements and the Australian Research Integrity Committee Framework. More information will be available through the NHMRC and ARC as revisions progress.

Murdoch University will progressively implement the 2018 Code to meet the requirement of full implementation by 1 July 2019.

Further information together with the full announcement is available on the ARC's Codes and Guidelines page.
