International flavours set to be unveiled at the Student Hub Five new food and drink vendors are open for business at the Student Hub in time for Open Day and the first week of semester 2. The first to open, Sir Walter’s Restaurant, is already settled into its new home serving coffee, sweet treats, breakfast and lunch. The new name and look reflects a shift away from a staff club to a casual dining restaurant for staff and students. The wrap-around balcony and terraces are sure to be popular spot once Spring arrives. Hugely popular Chatime is a bubble and iced tea chain now open on Bush Court. Founded in Taiwan, Chatime has more than 1,000 stores in 30 countries, with over 70 locations across Australia. Murdoch is the first university in the State to have attracted Chatime onto campus. With lots of fruity, milky, sparking, frozen and hot teas, the main question is which one will you choose? Roll’d is a national chain that brings the flavoursome street foods of Vietnam to Murdoch. Roll’d freshly prepares Vietnamese-style rice paper rolls, soups, noodle salads and steamed buns, with a modern Australian twist. Roll’d opened on Monday 23 July to coincide with the start of O-Week. Chinese Canton is a Perth favourite, with other stores in major CBD and metropolitan shopping centres. Visitors can look forward to their wide range of soups, fried noodle and house specialities. Chinese Canton opens tomorrow, Wednesday 25 July. Courtside is a new café concept for Murdoch, with a focus on local, seasonal ingredients and top quality, locally roasted coffee. Courtside’s balanced menu ranges from a vegan tofu bowl and kale and spirulina smoothie to homemade fried chicken and snickers milkshake. There are loads of vegan, gluten free and vegetarian options, including a rainbow bowl of tofu, broccoli, zucchini noodles, pickled cabbage and avocado. Courtside opens on Saturday 28 July, in time for Open Day. Student Hub visitors also have access to the 12 microwaves, boiling and chilled water, wash-up sinks and preparation space in the Student Kitchen. The kitchen is well equipped so that people bringing their own food from home have lots of space to create their lunches and share the Student Hub’s facilities with those buying from the food outlets. All of the new outlets offer meal-deals and special offers to ensure that the options remain affordable. Keep an eye on the videowall and social media for more information. The University is working with other operators to fill the two remaining Student Hub stores later in Semester 2. Negotiations with a major sushi chain are close to being finalised, and other promising opportunities are under review. In addition, a convenience shop is planned at the rear of the Student Hub, offering a one-stop grocery and retail space. Watch out for further announcements later this semester. With so much going on, it’s important that we hear your thoughts on the new facilities. Please send your questions, comments and feedback to leasing@murdoch.edu.au. This is how the announcement will appear on the Announcements website. Only the title will be included in the emailed version.
