Semester 2 additional support for learning services

Murdoch University is committed to an inclusive learning environment. To support the success of all students, the Support for Learning Team in the PVC Education portfolio has the following resources and services available, which especially support students for whom English is an additional language. These services are in addition to our regular offerings of PASS, PAC, workshops and consultation with individual students. Please let your students know about these services where they are relevant.

Postgraduate students

  • International students at Murdoch have the opportunity to enrol in: TLC 501 Communication Skills for Postgraduate Students (3 credit point unit). It starts in WEEK 3 so if you identify students who have room for an extra subject or who would benefit from using an elective to take this unit, please make them aware of its availability.   •  PASS at Murdoch: The PASS program is now supporting multiple ‘Masters of Information Technology' units. PASS is an interactive student-led series of structured study sessions that facilitate a concreate understanding of unit specific content. These sessions are weekly (during teaching weeks). Students who attend PASS benefit by achieving greater success in their studies and making new friends.

 Undergraduate students

All students

  •  Grammarly is an online platform to assist in checking fundamental grammatical and punctuation errors. This platform is free for all Murdoch students. The platform allows you to submit/assess and make changes surrounding common grammatical issues at the final editing stage of assessments.   • All International Students can come along to the weekly session "How to Study in Australia"  Thursday 12.30-1.20 Building 513 room 1.004  where each week there will be new information presented to assist students to build their study skills and understanding of Academic Integrity. There will also be an opportunity for students to apply these new skills to one of their assignments.  Each student will choose one written assignment from one of their units at the start of the seminar series and be guided through the research, reading and note-taking, drafting, and editing process by Dr Hobson. Explicit teaching on how to do each of these steps in line with the University's Academic Integrity policy will be given in the seminar.  All International students from all disciplines are welcome to attend.   • English Language Acceleration Series: ELAS is a FREE weekly seminar series designed to assist international students for whom English is an additional language in understanding educational differences between Australia and their home country. It aims to develop and improves discipline-specific scholarly English skills. Offering highly-interactive weekly sessions led by trained International and Education students, participants will improve their written and verbal communication skills. The Peer-learning style allows for a safe space to address concerns in a non-judgemental environment. By attending these sessions, students will enhance discipline-specific knowledge and skills in Business and IT. Sessions are designed to assist in understanding Murdoch's academic expectations while building confidence in written and spoken English.
