Coffee pod recycling success Staff and students in the Centre for Comparative Genomics have set up a coffee pod recycling station and encourage other staff to do the same. As Biomedical researchers, we believe in making the world a better place. We strive to develop innovative technologies to treat and understand the most devastating diseases and disorders affecting the world today. However, as humans, we also wonder if the waste that results from our ground-breaking research is doing more harm than good. As employees and students of Building 390, we aim to reduce our impact on the environment and promote sustainable practices at Murdoch University. The establishment of polystyrene recycling at Murdoch University was a pivotal step forward and thus we want to continue this change by reducing our carbon footprint through initiating a Nespresso™ pod recycling program here as well. We have organised a recycling location within Building 390, West Entrance. This free service provided by Nespresso™ provides convenience for Murdoch employees and students to recycle any used aluminium pods from the office or home. The aluminium casing is used to manufacture new products, and the coffee grinds are recycled into compost fertiliser for rice fields and vineyards, and biofuel for buses. We are excited to be involved in this initiative and to help make the world a better place. Check out https://www.nespresso.com/au/en/nespresso-bulk-recycling-box-kit to get a recycling box, or just a post-paid bag, for your coffee pods.
