Donation of defibrillator to Murdoch Retirement Village Michael Grant, Director of Murdoch Retirement Services (MRS) recently attended the St. Ives Murdoch Residents' Association (SIMRA) bowling group's "Barefoot Bowls" evening to present a defibrillator donated to the SIMRA President, Mr David Hackett. The 360 unit retirement village is owned by the University through its subsidiary MRS, and is managed by St. Ives Group on our behalf. With a population of almost 550 people in the Village, most over 70 years of age, it is now considered that a defibrillator is a vital piece of equipment to have installed, should an incident occur. Residents had been working hard to raise funds for the purchase of the first defibrillator and sought further assistance for a donation toward this cause, which is where Murdoch University stepped into help. MRS were contacted by the SIMRA regarding their fund raising efforts to purchase three defibrillators for the Murdoch Retirement Village. The University and the St. Ives Group purchased and donated one defibrillator each to the SIMRA, which has enhanced the Village enormously and left the residents with a much more manageable fund raising target.
