ARC research success

Congratulations to all academics and professional staff involved in successful bids for the latest round of Australian Research Council (ARC) funding.

Murdoch University is leading or is involved in six projects recently announced by the ARC.

Dr Ann Maree Vallence has won a Discovery Early Career Researcher Award to advance her brain research on older adults. You can read more about this work on the news website.

Dr Natalie Warburton is part of an ARC Discovery Project, led by Flinders University, which will illuminate the evolutionary history of kangaroos and its relatives.

Associate Professor Belinda Robson will be part of a team investigating how changes or disturbances to environments can impact species. A large-scale field experiment on streams in South-West Western Australia will be conducted as part of this study, which is being led by the University of Tasmania.

Associate Professor Rob Trengove is part of two successful Linkage Infrastructure Equipment and Facilities (LIEF) projects. One, led by the University of Western Australia, will establish a new Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) facility to support high-throughput compound identification.

A second, also involving Murdoch researchers Dr Fang Xia, Dr Artur Deditius and Dr Garth Maker, will aim to establish a novel Time of Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry facility to support national and international research projects in areas that include energy, minerals, planetary sciences and biomedical sciences. This project is being led by Curtin University.

Dr Xia and Dr Deditius are also a part of another successful LIEF project led by Curtin that aims to provide a new scanning electron microscope to strengthen applied materials and minerals research.
