Does movement training with music increase brain activity in healthy adults? Research project: Researchers at Murdoch University are investigating if music-movement training can increase activity in the motor areas of the brain in healthy adults. Participants: Right-handed adults (18-35yrs) with no previous history of epilepsy or seizures, no neurological disorders, and aren’t taking medications that influence the central nervous system (such as anti-depressants). What's involved: The experiment comprises two parts. (1) Non-invasive and non-painful brain stimulation, which is delivered with a hand-held coil placed against the scalp (and feels like a tapping sensation on the head) to measure brain activity. (2) Movement task involving repeated wrist extension with and without musical cues. How long will it take: There will be two sesisions. Each session will take approximately 2 hours. All experiments are conducted at Murdoch University.
