Wear purple for International Women's Day this Friday

Show your support for International Women’s Day and join us in celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, by wearing something purple this Friday 08 March 2019!

Why purple?! Purple is the official colour of International Women’s Day, founded more than a century ago after some 15,000 women marched in New York City to demand better working conditions and voting rights. #BalanceforBetter is this year’s IWD theme, recognising that everyone has a part to play in building a gender-balanced world.

On the day, the University’s SAGE Athena SWAN Self-Assessment Team will be hosting Murdoch’s 2019 International Women’s Day morning tea event.  It is now fully booked, but the amphitheatre style of the Winter Garden allows plenty of room for listening in from a distance. The International Women’s Day morning tea is an important event for Murdoch University where we share stories, discuss future plans, as well as recognise and celebrate achievements.

If you can’t find something purple, why not join in on social media using the #IWD2019 #BalanceforBetter and #MurdochUni hashtags.
