Friday 17 May is the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersex Discrimination and Transphobia, also known as IDAHOBIT Day.
It can be easy to forget that discrimination can shape lives. For others, forgetting is not so easy.
IDAHOBIT Day has many different meanings to individuals with different experiences. For some, it is a day to pay respect to the elders of our community who fought for acceptance and opportunity decades ago. Others use this day to celebrate the resilience of our LGBTIQA+ communities and educate the broader community about the diversity of identities.
Every year on the 17 May, people across the world come together to confront Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersex Discrimination and Transphobia to create a better and more inclusive future.
Together, we can end Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersex Discrimination and Transphobia. If you’d like to help promote the rights of LGBTIQA+ communities, here are some things you can do:
- make a pledge and donate to an organisation like Trans Folk of WA or Minus18
- promote positive representation and inclusion of LGBTIQA+
- learn about how to support your LGBTIQA+ friends and family members
- Get involved with human rights via the Australian Human Rights Commission or Amnesty International
- Murdoch University is a proud signatory to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Explore the SDG goals to understand how greater diversity, equality and inclusion can help achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.
