Recalibrating Diasporas conference at Murdoch

Published: 18th June 2019

International delegates will be attending a two-day public conference at our South Street Campus from 8am on Thursday 27 June to critically interrogate the forces which create modern day diasporas.

Recalibrating Diasporas: Asia Pacific and the Spaces Beyond is an interdisciplinary conference open to the public organised by Murdoch University in cooperation with Linnaeus University in Sweden.

The conference will include presentations on, among other topics, identity and migration in Southeast Asia, representations of diasporas in US pop culture and the politics of climate change.

Delegates will also discuss whether the term “diaspora” needs redefining in the current climate of robust debate concerning immigration, gender and sexuality, and global ecosystems.

Free registration is required to attend the event, which will be based at the Learning Link in Building 513 and the Hills Lecture Theatre on Murdoch’s Perth campus.
