Along with a presence at Moonboorli (Beyond), WA’s premier event for 2019, the Murdoch University Outreach team is gearing up for a month of explosive school engagements and community events so good it’s criminal.

Art and Poster Science Showcase – Friday 9 August

Moonboorli (Beyond) – Saturday 10 August

The Ultimate Science Showdown – Tuesday 13 August

Science Behind Bars – Thursday 15 August (All Ages) and Friday 16 August (18+)

Headlining Murdoch’s National Science Week is Science Behind Bars at the historic Fremantle Prison with tickets to both evenings, all ages and 18+, already SOLD OUT. Participants will be a detective for the evening, using a range of ‘real life’ forensic science techniques to solve a fictional crime.

The Ultimate Science Showdown returns on Tuesday August 13, to pit unsuspecting scientists against a game-show style competition filled with nefarious questions about life, the universe, and more or less everything. This event for all ages will see expert career scientists face off against a team of plucky science undergrads… or should that be underdogs? Free event, tickets limited; book now via Eventbrite

Outreach will be offering our ever-popular “Face in the Crowd” forensic reconstruction workshop at Moonboorli (Beyond), Saturday August 10. Moonboorli is a special free event and a gathering place for culture, ideas, knowledge and storytelling, at the State Library of Western Australia. Celebrate your curiosity and join Propel Youth Arts WA and the WA Coordinating Committee for the opening of National Science Week. Get involved and experience science in creative and unexpected ways through a day-long program showcasing the latest developments and trends in WA and beyond. Book a place in a “Face in the Crowd” workshop now.

The famous Live and Explosive science show is also touring throughout Perth across August, with shows at high schools, the Perth Children’s Hospital and this year’s Perth Science Festival.

On top of all this, to celebrate the Year of the Periodic Table, Outreach has been heading to local high schools to create art pieces based on different elements. On Friday August 9 students will be showcasing their Periodic Table Art project at Murdoch University, alongside the Soil Science Chemistry Experiment Program posters. The event will be open to the public.
