Murdoch is getting ready to celebrate Pride Month this November, so show your support of the LGBTIQA+ community by wearing rainbows all month – think socks, shirts, hats, scarves, hair clips, badges, you name it! Each rainbow speaks volumes to the queer community about inclusion, belonging and acceptance, which underpins our founding principles of equity and social justice.
There are several Pride Month activities for staff and students to connect with:
Rainbow piano painting
Have you tried your hand yet at the Play Me I’m Yours pianos on campus? This SSAF funded initiative is looking to help build up our community and it’s time to decorate them. One of the pianos has been earmarked for rainbows.So, if you’re passing by, please add your splash of colour to help brighten campus and show support for the Pride movement!

Pride Picnic – all welcome!
Come on down to Bush Court at midday as a new ‘progress flag’ is raised at 12:30pm. Then continue on down to the Tav for a BYO picnic and enjoy rainbow cupcakes, garden games and a musician.
Did you know?
The Pride flag dates back to 1978 as an emblem of empowerment for the queer community, and it has gone through several design changes to become more inclusive. In 2017, black and brown stripes were added to recognise LGBTQ+ people of colour and First Nations peoples. In 2018, a Pride Progress Flag also incorporated the Trans community colours of white, pink and blue. (Rainbow with a cause, 2019)

Pride Parade
Murdoch has organised a ‘walking’ entry for staff and students to participate in this year’s Pride WA Parade which will be held in Gloucester Park between 4:30-9pm. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 precautions, registrations are essential and places are limited. Secure your place now by .
