Project Objectives
- This project aims to increase students' knowledge of complex One Health issues affecting communities in Bali through direct engagement and cultural training with community based non-government organisations, local pet owners and animal welfare organisations.
- Increase student mobility from MU different disciplines (animal health and animal science, biomedical sciences, genetics and molecular biology studies, conservation and wildlife biology, environmental sciences, and laboratory medicine) and from diverse backgrounds.
- Expose students to the intersecting nature and real-world problems that are part of One Health.
Project Description
- Work in collaboration with Universitas Udayana (UNUD), Bali – Indonesia’s students.
- Receive face-to-face language and cultural training will be facilitated by Universitas Udayana. The training will include:
- Immersion of language and cultural training to provide cultural awareness to the students to allow appropriate engagement with locals.
- Benefit greatly from the language and cultural training offered by UNUD
- Be part of Animals International Internship in Bali, Indonesia, the internship includes:
- Promoting advocacy, education, and enforcement of animal cruelty laws in Indonesia through assisting Bali Animal Defenders (funded by AI), and by liaising with village authorities and police
- End the dog meat trade in Bali on human health and animal welfare grounds, by monitoring possible outlets assisted by Government agencies and local village authorities, and providing education about the dog meat trade, including impacts on tourism especially from Australia
- Assist to depopulate overcrowded shelters in Bali by investigating novel ways to improve the health and welfare of animals and that of low-income Balinese by establishing a paid dog fostering system (this will include public health and animal welfare education) .
- Assist with planning how to eradicate rabies in Bali; assist the UNUD-MU ear tag project to help refine ear tags in dogs to assist with long-term and easy identification of dogs vaccinated against rabies
- Understand herd health – management and control of rabies in Bali from a One Health, tourism and government perspective.

- This program has gained by DFAT’s New Colombo Plan Mobility Program funding, therefore the cost for the participation in the project is free of charge
