Last year, the State Government announced the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development’s (DPIRD) would open a new research facility at Murdoch University with $320 million allocated to fund its construction.
This significant investment will create many opportunities for Murdoch University to build on our collaborative relationship with DPIRD. The co-location of DPIRD at Murdoch will also result in enhanced collaboration between all WA universities involved in agricultural research, the sharing of data, and new opportunities for students to engage in industry research supervision and internships.
Scheduled for completion in 2027, the DPIRD Biosecurity and Research Facility will include laboratories, specialised outbuildings, glass houses and field plots. The facility will sit within a 11-hectare site in the University’s eastern precinct off Murdoch Drive, adjacent to the Southern Grains Hub.
Project works to relocate DPIRD from their Kensington premises to our campus are now commencing, with in-ground and topographical surveys of the site taking place next week.
The site area involved is marked by the red shaded area. If you are driving through the area, please be mindful that surveyors will be present. We expect there to be minimal impacts to campus operations.
