Hosted by The Australian National University on Wednesday 2 August, The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice: A Dialogue for Students (The Dialogue) panel session was designed to help students learn more about the upcoming Voice Referendum.

VoiceToParliament

Murdoch University joined 25 other universities in broadcasting the event around Australia.

Our livestream event was held in the Murdoch Moot Court and Law Centre, with students from many disciplines gathering together to join thousands of other students across the country.

The panel was filled with a robust set of some of Australia's strongest voices on the Voice to Parliament who spoke directly to students about their role in the upcoming referendum. The afternoon was one of rich discussion and was an event Murdoch University was proud to facilitate.

PVC First Nations, Chanelle van den Berg said she was pleased to see Murdoch students taking an interest and actively engaging in the event to better educate themselves on the upcoming referendum. Prior to the livestream commencing, she encouraged those in attendance to remain engaged and take these conversations forward into their personal lives and classrooms.

“There is not long to go before we must make a decision and vote in the upcoming referendum. You can make a huge difference by talking to your friends and family about the importance of a Voice,” said Chanelle.

Linda Burney, Minister for Indigenous Australians closed the event with a call to students.

“You are our future and some of our closest allies, this is your moment. We have a once in a generation chance to move Australia forward.”
