Get involved in Pride events happening at Murdoch

Published: 13th October 2023

Murdoch University is excited to be participating in Pride Month in WA (November) aligned with Pride Fest. We have a number of events and installations planned across campus that tell stories of pride and celebrate the LGBTIQA+ community!

Pride 2023 630x380

We support our students and staff to study and work with pride. These events are for everyone – community members and allies alike – and we look forward to seeing our community at these events and sharing them widely with colleagues and students. We encourage you to make a plan to attend one of these events as a class, club or group of friends and show up for the LGBTIQA+ community with pride.

Encouraging allies, Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr Rebecca Bennett says “Pride Month is an opportunity for allies to show up for the LGBTIQA+ community to show support through solidarity and celebration. I want to invite everyone to come and celebrate the inclusive community that Murdoch is building together. Community support and celebration is essential.”

In Association with Fremantle Press, Pride at Murdoch presents the Pride in Storytelling Panel. This event brings together storytellers, both alumni and current students of WA Universities to have a conversation about the importance of LGBTIQA+ representation in storytelling, both in and out of curriculum. This event is open to the wider university and LGBTIQA+ community in WA – so please feel welcome to invite friends from outside Murdoch!

The event includes a panel discussion, along with the opportunity to connect and network over provided food and drink. The panel will also be available to livestream. Registrations are essential.

16 November: West Pride Archives Launch

Join Murdoch University to celebrate and hear from the team behind the WestPride Archives (formerly the Gay and Lesbian Archives of Western Australia). 25 November: The Pride WA Pride Parade

The Pride Parade is a multi-decade tradition in Perth, with the second largest pride parade in Australia behind Sydney. We’re looking forward to welcoming the Murdoch staff, student and alumni community to join us in the 2023 Pride Parade for the Murdoch float. We ask everyone, community members and allies alike, to walk together and show Perth just how proud we are of the LGBTIQA+ community at Murdoch.
