In the third week of February, we are expecting to welcome 108 Tokyo City University (TCU) students to Murdoch as part of the Tokyo-Australia Program (TAP). The TCU students will live at Murdoch Village and attend classes over 14 weeks on campus, including 7 weeks of intensive English followed by 6 weeks of liberal arts study.
We're looking for current Murdoch students to volunteer in the Buddy Program to help the students from TCU explore Murdoch and meet new people.
What does a Volunteer Buddy do?
As a TCU Volunteer Buddy, you will:
- Be matched up with a small group of TCU students and assist them to find their way around Murdoch and life in Perth.
- Get to meet and connect with, not only students from TCU, but a lot of other Murdoch students participating in the Buddy Program.
- Have opportunities to develop and participate in fun activities that encourage interaction and exploration of life in Australia.
What do I need to do to become a Volunteer Buddy?
As a TCU Volunteer Buddy, you will:
- Need to participate in a 2.5 hour training session before the TCU students arrive at Murdoch.
- Be encouraged to participate in activities over the TCU student orientation Feb 15 -16.
To sign up to be a TCU TAP Volunteer Buddy, please register by 16 January, 2024.
What will I gain from this opportunity?
On a professional level, as a TCU Volunteer Buddy you will have an opportunity to develop:
- Skills for future employment, including teambuilding, planning, organisation and leadership skills.
- Interpersonal communication skills.
- Cultural awareness competence.
You will also:
- Receive a certificate/letter acknowledging your contribution to TAP and Murdoch University
