Are there any cases of coronavirus at Murdoch?

No. There are no confirmed or suspected cases at Murdoch University and we have been working actively to do our best to ensure that all students and staff are kept safe and well.

What are the symptoms of coronavirus?

Symptoms are like those of the common cold and include fever, coughs, headaches, shortness of breath and a sore throat. Whilst some people can get very unwell, some people experience less symptoms and recover quickly.

What do I do if I have these symptoms?

Contact the Coronavirus Health information line on 1800 020 080. If you have serious symptoms such as difficulty breathing call 000 for an ambulance. If you have mild symptoms give your local doctor or hospital a call and tell them about your symptoms and your recent travel history.

Can other vaccines protect you against the new coronavirus?

No, the virus is new and different and there is currently no vaccine available.

How can I protect myself against the Coronavirus?

Practising good hygiene is the best defence against most viruses. This includes washing your hands regularly for at least 20 seconds with soap and water and coughing or sneezing into your elbow or a tissue.

Another important factor is keeping yourself healthy, if you want free advice on leading a healthy lifestyle pop in to the University Medical Service at South Street and have a chat to the nurse.

Is it safe to eat food from China or receive a package from China?

Yes, it’s safe. Coronavirus doesn’t survive on packages or letters and has not been linked to food imported from China and sold in Australia.

Where can I find out more information?

There’s up to date information on the websites for the Department of Health in Western Australia and the Australian Department of Health. Murdoch is continuing to monitor the advice coming from both the state and federal health authorities and is providing regular updates to staff and students as it becomes available on our dedicated webpage.
