The formal learning capability in the new building will provide for over 60% of all general teaching on the campus, ensuring that the majority of our current and future students will benefit from the new technology and additional collaborative learning capability. In addition to the formal learning spaces, there will be more than 1,100 new seating environments for students to learn and work together informally.
The New Academic Building sets a leadership benchmark for sustainability in State and national contexts, as the largest mass timber construction across all Australian university campuses. It will have a timber structure made from a fully renewable resource and a large roof acting as a renewable energy generator. The sustainable timber structure and a target to achieve a 6 Green Star rating positions the project at an international leadership level for sustainability.
It will form a new campus arrival point from Discovery Way and create a new promenade leading to the traditional heart of the campus, Bush Court.
This project has evolved through the contribution of many of our staff and students. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support to reach this important milestone.
As a major investment, the New Academic Building will provide a significant platform for enhancing the student experience, providing modern teaching spaces, engaging industry partners and connecting with our local community.
