This means that no student or staff interstate university travel is to be requested, approved, booked or recorded before 1st February 2021. This decision will be reviewed prior to that date to determine whether it is amended or extended.
There will also be no Murdoch University insurance arrangements provided for any students or staff who undertake travel for personal reasons or who breach the decision outlined above.
Students are to be advised that:
- Personal interstate travel is at the individual’s own risk.
- If you decide to travel interstate for personal reasons, you should discuss continuity arrangements with your supervisor or Academic Chair, such as the impact on your studies if COVID-19 restrictions impede your post-travel return to study.
- Students and staff undertaking travel for personal reasons must adhere to all applicable COVID-19 national and state jurisdiction entry and exit requirements, restrictions and health directions. This includes disease protection measures such as COVID-19 testing and quarantine arrangements where applicable.
Advice regarding interstate internships and placements
If you decide to travel interstate for personal reasons (e.g. travel home for the summer) and wish to be considered for a work placement or internship local to your location during that time – you should temporarily update your home address in MyInfo to reflect your summer residence.
This way, our placement system will identify that your placement is local (within 100km) to that residence – and therefore not regarded as involving travel.
Please note, we will not be approving any placement requests where a student’s address is listed as WA, and the placement location is interstate.
If your intended placement is more than 100km from your temporary interstate residence, you will need to apply for approval as intrastate travel, albeit in a state other than WA.
If you have any questions about internships and placements, please contact workplacements@murdoch.edu.au.
Reminder: restrictions on intrastate and international travel
- International travel remains restricted until 1 June 2021.
- Intrastate travel within WA for University purposes remains at ‘critical travel only’, subject to approval by the Chair of the University’s Critical Incident Management Team.
