The safety of our students and staff is our number one priority. As a member of the Murdoch community, it is your responsibility to adhere to the protocols, so we can continue to ensure our campuses remain safe places for everyone.

When masks are not mandated, you are encouraged to consider wearing one on campus for your own protection and the protection of those around you.

To comply with WA Government requirements, proof of vaccination is required for specific roles, occupations and facilities. This means staff and students who work in these areas or access premises/locations where the WA Government has mandated COVID-19 vaccination for workers, must be fully vaccinated including booster doses.

People Protocols

Masks

When mandated by the government, you are required to wear a face mask unless you are exempt based on the reasons supplied by WA Health. When masks are not mandated, you are encouraged to consider wearing one on campus for your own protection and the protection of those around you.

Physical distancing

We are all required to observe the Federal and State Government’s guidelines in relation to physical distancing by staying 1.5m apart from others where possible and follow guidance on capacity limits (where applicable).

Hygiene

The most important thing we can all do to prevent the spread of COVID-19 is observe proper handwashing and cough and sneeze hygiene.

Remember to wash your hands with soap and water regularly, for at least 20 seconds. You should also use the hand sanitiser stations on campus where available. Always cough or sneeze into your arm or a tissue and put the tissue in the bin straight away. Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds afterwards.

Personal health

If you are unwell, don’t come to campus. You can still see a doctor via a telephone or telehealth (video) consult; your doctor will advise if you need a physical assessment, arrange any scripts and manage your health care remotely.

Murdoch University Health’s Medical and Counselling services remain open on-campus to support your physical and mental wellbeing. We understand the importance of infection control and have steps in place to ensure our patients remain safe. Please note, it is compulsory to wear a mask to an appointment at the Medical Service.

If you have a pre-existing health condition, please contact Access and Inclusion at access@murdoch.edu.au for additional support relating to a disability or health condition or for access to accessibility services.

Reporting

If you are diagnosed with COVID-19, it’s important you stay home and let your team leader know (and, if you are also a student, your Unit Coordinator). You must also complete the COVID-19 Case Report Form.

Behaviour

Remember to be kind, respectful and supportive of your fellow students, colleagues and peers, as well as being mindful of others needs to maintain physical distancing.

The Murdoch Safe app provides access to a range of support services and information about reporting any incidents of harassment or discrimination you experience or witness.

Interacting with campus security staff

For the safety of our whole community, our security staff will be monitoring whether you are observing physical distancing measures. Make sure they don’t need to remind you of your obligations.

Place Protocols

Proof of vaccination

To comply with WA Government requirements, proof of vaccination is required for specific roles, occupations and facilities. This means staff and students who work in these areas or access premises/locations where the WA Government has mandated COVID-19 vaccination for workers, must be fully vaccinated including booster doses.

Entering and exiting

When entering and leaving buildings, please leave space for people to come and go, and be polite and smile at your fellow students, colleagues and peers as you go about the place. Everyone loves a smile. :)

Using lifts

Although there are not a lot of lifts on our campuses, to maintain 1.5 metres between people, we ask that only one person use each lift at a time.

Queueing

Be polite, patient, and stand 1.5 metres apart or in areas allocated for you to stand.

Cleaning

The University has boosted its cleaning regime in high-traffic areas around the campus and are using hospital grade disinfectant. If you see an area for improvement, please let us know by email to: fm.helpdesk@murdoch.edu.au

Library

The rules for the library remain as they have always been, and it remains a great place to come together to collaborate and study. The only change is that you must observe distancing requirements.

Computer labs

Within computer labs it is important you wipe down all surfaces after you have used them. Additional cleaning supplies are on hand or ask a staff member if you need help.

Campus services and amenities

The Student Portal, staff Intranet and our social channels are being updated regularly with information about what is open and when.

Specialised spaces: laboratories, studios, clinics, etc.

Every class held in a lab, studio or clinic is different and has specific arrangements.

It’s important you adhere to the distancing and hygiene requirements in these areas, read any signage displayed on the rooms regarding occupancy, and listen to instructions from Murdoch staff about how you use the space.
