  Digital Explanations: Learning and Communicating Content using Student-created Digital Media
  Finding new ways to engage university students with content is a challenge for all academics. One way is to get them to use their own technology (mobile phone and free movie making software on a Mac and PC) to create digital explanations to represent and communicate discipline knowledge.

  Stem cell transplantation for cervical spinal cord injury - Dr Giles Plant - 4 March at 4pm
  Stem cell based therapeutics have been reported to improve functional recovery after spinal cord injury and other CNS injuries. However, it is important to understand the mechanisms behind the observed anatomical and functional improvement. Currently it is uncertain if the differences originate from an endogenous stem cell response or if it is due to the transplant of exogenous cells.   Creating a novel e-learning tool using authentic learning principles
  "How do to fit a bus onto a computer screen?" - A World Health Organisation (WHO) case study. Over the past three years a WHO team has created a unique e-learning course using a "virtual bus trip". The WHO now offer this training course to those interested in the handling/distribution of vaccines and temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical products: A bus trip through Turkey, following the path of how these products enter the country and are distributed to healthcare centers.

  Inside the Chinese university, and implications for student transition to Australian education
  What goes on inside the Chinese university classroom? How is academic success achieved in China, and how does this differ from success in Australia? In this seminar, we will present findings from an OLT-funded, collaborative Australian-Chinese project which identifies that a disparity exists between pedagogic practices and student learning experiences in China and Australia.
